What they're looking for

  • Build a focused tool, service, or software component that solves a concrete problem for our engineering or operations team.
  • Write and test code for tasks such as processing sensor data, inspecting logs, automating checks, or simplifying repeated workflows.
  • Work with engineers to reproduce bugs, investigate failures, and understand how software behaves when connected to physical systems.
  • Document setup steps, expected behavior, and known limitations so other people can use and maintain what you build.
  • Incorporate code review and user feedback, and help verify that your changes work in the environment where they will run.

ABOUT IXIAN Ixian Robotics is building intelligent machines to reindustrialize America. We’re based in San Francisco and backed by a16z and Accel. We believe robotics is a full-stack problem. Software, hardware, and machine learning are only part of it. Bridging advances in robot learning with America’s industrial base requires invention in how we understand customers, design products, navigate supply chains, and make the economics work. We’re building a company that takes responsibility for all of it. At Ixian, deployment isn’t the final step after the “real innovation” is complete. Deploying robots is the point of robotics, and deployment is our forcing function for innovation. Putting a machine to work reveals what the lab can’t: what breaks, what matters to the people using it, and what it will take to make our machines indispensable. Robots are called machines when they work. We intend to build machines. ABOUT THE ROLE You’ll build software that helps our engineers develop, test, and operate robotics systems. Working with the team, you’ll take on a defined project that could involve developer tools, data processing, test automation, or software that interfaces with hardware. You’ll follow your work through implementation, testing, and use by the people it supports. We’re looking for someone who enjoys understanding a problem, building a practical solution, and improving it based on real feedback. Your project will reflect your skills and the team’s current needs. WHAT YOU’LL DO - Build a focused tool, service, or software component that solves a concrete problem for our engineering or operations team. - Write and test code for tasks such as processing sensor data, inspecting logs, automating checks, or simplifying repeated workflows. - Work with engineers to reproduce bugs, investigate failures, and understand how software behaves when connected to physical systems. - Document setup steps, expected behavior, and known limitations so other people can use and maintain what you build. - Incorporate code review and user feedback, and help verify that your changes work in the environment where they will run. WHAT YOU’LL BRING - Programming experience from coursework, research, personal projects, a robotics team, or a previous internship. Examples of working software are welcome. - Comfort with Python or another general-purpose language, plus a basic understanding of data structures, debugging, and version control. - A habit of checking your work and breaking unfamiliar problems into smaller steps you can test and understand. - Curiosity about robotics and willingness to learn the hardware, data, and operational context behind a software problem. - Clear communication and dependable follow-through. Experience with Linux, C++, sensors, or robotics software is useful but not required. Location: San Francisco · On-site Schedule: Full-time Pay: $50–$75 per hour EQUAL OPPORTUNITY Ixian Robotics is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by applicable federal, state, or local law.
